From Diagnosis to Determination: Why I’m Sharing My Cancer Journey

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d be diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I was the picture of health, a mother of four who had recently embarked on a journey of self-care after years of putting everyone else first. Then, the world turned upside down in 2020, and suddenly, I found myself juggling work, homeschooling, and a pandemic-induced sense of chaos.

Like many, my family made the decision to homeschool our children when they were asked to wear masks in school. My husband became a stay-at-home school dad, and I dove headfirst into my graphic design work, trying to make ends meet in a world turned upside down. Little did I know, the stress and sedentary lifestyle would provide the perfect breeding ground for cancer to take hold.

It started innocently enough, just a few bumps on my neck. But as they persisted, I knew I couldn’t ignore them any longer. In the midst of lockdowns and uncertainty, I hesitated to seek medical help, but eventually, I knew I had to face the truth: something was wrong.

Now, as I navigate the twists and turns of chemotherapy and treatment, I feel compelled to share my story. I want others to know that there are alternatives, that there is hope even in the darkest moments of a cancer diagnosis. That’s why I’m sharing five things that have kept me going, even on the toughest days:

1. Family

They say family is everything, and I couldn’t agree more. My husband and children are my reason for fighting, for pushing through the pain and uncertainty. But beware, some may try to use your love for family as a scare tactic. Don’t let fear cloud your judgment.

2. Life

I’m not ready to give up on life yet. I have so much left to do, so many dreams left to chase. I refuse to let cancer rob me of my future.

3. Faith

My faith has been a guiding light in this dark journey. I know God has a plan for me, and I’m not ready to give up on His purpose for my life.

4. Parents

My parents have always been there for me, supporting me through thick and thin. I want to be there for them as they grow older, just as they’ve been there for me.

5. Future

I want to see my children grow up, settle down, and start families of their own. I want to be a part of their lives and watch them flourish.

As I continue on this journey, I’m committed to sharing my experiences, my struggles, and my triumphs. Cancer may be tough, but with the right mindset and support system, we can overcome even the greatest obstacles.
