Hi my name is Natalie and last February, in 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. Surgery on my neck to remove two enlarged lymph nodes led to a diagnosis I never saw coming: Hodgkinâs lymphoma. Suddenly, I found myself thrust into a world of doctors, treatments, and uncertainty.
The journey that followed was a whirlwind of appointments, tests, and difficult decisions. At times, it felt like I was being swept along a path I hadnât foreseen or chosen. Looking back, there are things I wish I had known, steps I wish I had taken sooner. If youâre facing a similar diagnosis, here are some lessons Iâve learned along the way:
When it comes to your health, intuition is a powerful tool. Donât be afraid to speak up and advocate for yourself. You know your body better than anyone else, and your instincts are worth listening to.
2. Donât Panic, Do Your Research:
A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, but knowledge is empowering. Take the time to educate yourself about your diagnosis and treatment options. There are resources available online and support groups where you can connect with others who have been in your shoes.
3. Seek Second Opinions:
Not all doctors approach treatment the same way. Donât hesitate to seek out second or even third opinions to ensure youâre making the best decisions for your health. Different perspectives can provide valuable insight and options you may not have considered.
4. Eliminate Toxicity:
Cancer is a wake-up call to evaluate all aspects of your life, including your environment, relationships, and habits. Identify and eliminate anything that may be contributing to toxicity in your life, whether itâs unhealthy foods, negative relationships, or stress-inducing situations.
5. Embrace Spirituality:
Regardless of your religious beliefs, finding a source of spiritual strength can provide comfort and guidance during challenging times. Whether through prayer, meditation, or connecting with a higher power, nurturing your spiritual well-being can help you find hope and peace amidst the storm.
My own journey with cancer is far from over, but along the way, Iâve discovered the importance of trusting myself, seeking knowledge, and nurturing my body and soul. If youâre facing a similar diagnosis, know that youâre not alone. There is a community of support waiting to help you through this challenging time.
If you would like to start writing out how to navigate your cancer diagnosis I created a journal with questions for you to fill out. These questions helped me on my journey as I was processing my own cancer journey, You can access this journal đ [here]. Remember, finding yourself after a cancer diagnosis is a personal and ongoing process, but with courage, resilience, and support, it is possible to emerge stronger on the other side.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story, and if you have any questions or would like to connect, please donât hesitate to reach out. Together, we can navigate this journey towards healing and wholeness.
